Polymer Fasteners and Components used in the Anti-Biological Fouling Industry

Biological fouling, or biofouling, occurs when microorganisms, algae and marine organisms such as barnacles and mussels accumulate on submerged surfaces and inside water systems. This build-up can restrict flow, block pipework, reduce heat transfer and increase maintenance requirements in marine and industrial equipment.

Our PEEK and PEEK GF30 fasteners and components support the equipment used to control biofouling. PEEK provides mechanical strength, electrical insulation and resistance to many chemicals, making it suitable for selected mounting, insulating and securing applications in marine growth prevention and water treatment systems. Unlike metal fasteners, PEEK components do not rust, helping maintain reliable assemblies in wet environments.

PEEK GF30 contains 30% glass fiber for increased stiffness and resistance to deformation under sustained loads. This helps supports, spacers and fasteners maintain their dimensions where secure positioning is essential. Neither material directly kills organisms or prevents their attachment; they help anti-biofouling systems operate reliably, with material selection matched to the treatment chemicals and operating conditions.
