What is Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)?

Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a high-strength polymer made from monomers called phenylene and sulfide. This thermoplastic is known for its high maximum service temperature and excellent mechanical properties. Our components are reinforced with 40% glass fiber for added stiffness and strength.

Key Properties

PPS is a high-performing polymer with excellent thermal stability, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and electrical properties. It has a continuous service use tempertaure of 392ºF, meaning it can be used in demanding operating conditions.

  • Appliances & Consumer Equipment

    PPS is inherently flame-resistant and has low moisture absorption, making it suitable for electrical housings, connectors, switches, pump components, heating-system parts, and other internal appliance components. It can withstand repeated exposure to elevated temperatures, moisture, cleaning products, and mechanical stress. These are necessary attributes in appliances and consumer equipment.

  • Electrical Vehicles

    PPS is often used in electric vehicles (EVs) because it combines excellent electrical insulation, high-temperature resistance, dimensional stability, and chemical resistance. These properties are particularly valuable around high-voltage electrical and battery systems, where components must remain reliable despite heat, vibration, moisture, and exposure to automotive fluids. Furthermore, when reinforced with glass fiber, it can handle mechanical stress.
